Rebellion is Bursting into Blossom

Across the world, from Global South to Global North, news of the struggle in San Salvador Atenco is spreading like a prairie fire. Even in New York City, a center of empire and a capitol of capital, we have heard of the brave resistance of the people of Atenco to a global system of terrifying violence.

Four years ago, when the people of Atenco fought from below against the incursion of an airport on their land, they captured the attention and embodied hopes of all of us who fight for autonomy and freedom. Like us, the people of Atenco fight for their own lives, but not solely their own. Their rebellion shook a free trade plan at its foundations, and has drawn a line of defense for communities across the region.

We consider this month’s police attack in Atenco an attack on everyone in the Western Hemisphere. Once again the powerful are employing arbitrary arrests, beatings, rape and murder to defend their system from the modest demands of human dignity. Once again the businessmen, politicians and police are trying to bury the truth alongside their victims. But from New York to Atenco, resistance continues to bloom – astonishing those with suits and flags, money and guns.

In this spirit, the New York Metro Alliance of Anarchists demands the IMMEDIATE RELEASE of all those arrested or disappeared by government forces, and the IMMEDIATE WITHDRAWAL of all such forces from San Salvador Atenco. Let those for whom oppression would bring fear and silence know: we are prepared to mobilize in our city to oppose the atrocities committed against you, and to fight for a world that includes us all.

La Flor de la Rebelión ha Estallado

A través del mundo, de sur a norte, las noticias de la lucha en San Salvador Atenco se están propagando como un fuego. Incluso en la ciudad de Nueva York, un centro del imperialismo y del capital, hemos sabido de la valiente resistencia de la gente de Atenco contra un sistema global de violencia y terror.

Cuatro años han pasados desde que la gente de Atenco luchara desde abajo contra la imposición de un aeropuerto en su tierra. Ell@s consiguieron atraer la atención del mundo y simbolizaron las esperanzas de tod@s l@s que luchamos por autonomía y libertad. Como nosotro@s, la gente de Atenco lucha por sus propias vidas, pero no sólo por lo suyo. Su rebelión desestabilizó las bases de un plan de libre comercio y ha levantado una línea de defensa para comunidades de toda la región.

Consideramos el ataque policial perpetrado este mes en Atenco como un ataque a tod@s l@s que habitamos en el hemisferio occidental. Una vez más, los poderosos están practicando detenciones arbitrarias, golpes, violaciones y asesinatos para defender su sistema frente a humildes demandas de dignidad humana. Otra vez, los empresarios, los políticos y la policía están intentando enterrar la verdad junto a sus víctimas. Pero desde Nueva York la resistencia continua creciendo, para asombro de los que llevan trajes elegantes, banderas, dinero y armas.

En este espíritu, la Alianza Metropolitana de Anarquistas de Nueva York exige la LIBERTAD INMEDIATA de tod@s l@s detenid@s o desaparecid@s por las fuerzas gubernamentales, así como el RETIRO INMEDIATO de dichas fuerzas de San Salvador Atenco. Que sepan tod@s aquell@s para quienes la opresión desembocaría en miedo y silencio: estamos preparad@s para movilizarnos en nuestra ciudad en oposición a las atrocidades cometidas contra ustedes y a luchar por un mundo que nos incluya a tod@s.
